Virginia DeLong was nominated by the Connecticut School Counselor Association.
Ms. DeLong was named the Connecticut School Counselor of the Year. Students are very familiar with Ms. DeLong coming in. They look forward to being in class when she visits because of her ability to engage, connect, and work with them. She attends field trips and is a part of the whole school community. She provides social-emotional services, career/post-secondary counseling, and academic counseling to her students.
Just wanted to say that I am thankful that I got to work with you. As a 5th grade teacher I could always come to you with my concerns. You prioritized my students’ needs and problems to the students’ benefit. You were an ear they could talk to, and your insight was always spot-on. Your students were/are lucky to have you, then and now. I was proud to be your colleague.
I cannot think of a person more deserving of this honor than Virginia. She has made such a positive impact on my life and on the lives of so many!

Virginia, is an amazing school counselor and deserves the title for “Life Changer of the Year!” She certainly has changed mine. Meeting Virginia at CSCA and connecting with her through professional development she has helped me become a better school counselor. She’s encouraged me to become better, do better and make sure that I take Care of myself, before I take care of others. She’s influenced many children and adults with her supporting and and caring nurture. I’m so happy to know Virginia and be welcomed into her life :)
Ms. DeLong has made a lasting impact on the school community where she has promoted the social and emotional health of all. She advocates for the needs of children and the importance of mental health. She has changed so many lives of fellow colleagues, students and the community.
There is no one in my mind that is more deserving for this honor than Virginia DeLong! I have been a co-worker of hers for about 15 years and I hope a friend for as long. Virginia jumps in feet first to everything she does and always, always, puts others first. Her students respect and adore her, the staff love her and the community supports her and what she believes in. I am so happy to see her get the recognition she deserves. She has initiated many programs as well as served on the committee of others. The best school counselor I have worked with in my 25 years of teaching. Virginia really is the best.
