Indra Owens was nominated by the New Jersey School Counselor Association.
Ms. Owens was named the New Jersey School Counselor of the Year. She has chaired Career Day, which was well-organized and had a huge representation of many different possible career paths that students can choose from. Students were very excited and enthusiastic about it. She has also held a series of workshops where students could learn to understand their personality type, build resumes, and develop problem-solving skills and coping mechanisms. She is a member of the Professional Learning Community for Career and College Readiness, where she played an integral role in starting a Summer Academy for 7th and 8th graders, which exposed them to career paths such as cooking and radio broadcasting. Ms. Owens is committed, dedicated, and passionate about her work.
Sooo proud!!! Indra has a true desire to serve. She selflessly puts her all in each mission she sets forth and is passionate about giving back to the community. I've witnessed her set and achieve each of her goals--she is such an inspiration!

Ms Owens is very deserving of this award and it has been an honor to witness the work that she has done. Indra is not only an asset to the fields of education and school counseling. She is also an asset to Atlantic City and surrounding communities. Whether it was mentoring through Princess Inc or providing students with post-secondary educational/career options students especially those from marginalized populations left Indra’s office with hope, vision and a feeling of empowerment!

Princess Inc is an outstanding organization that has helped many young people focus on doing the right things. I’ve known Indra her entire life and she is intelligent interested focused and concerned that our young folks accomplish important goals. Indra Owens has had an integral part in my life; starting out as my 8th grade teacher then mentor. I admire her poise and fierceness! She’s unlike any other and is always dropping knowledge(gems). It’s an honor to write a comment for Indra Owens! I’m impressed with her energy, commitment to everything she sets out to do, and her enthusiasm to help others when working on and trusting her own personal journey and projects! Indra’s commitment to her students and community is something to be noted! I’ve witnessed her interactions with people and the knowledge she deposits in her students and some adults as well leaves them with a sense of pride and accomplishment! “Trusting her Journey” is something to grasp onto because she’s resilient, getting the job done, and going places! In my eyes Indra has been, is, and will continue to be a great asset to the State of New Jersey’s youth. As a School Counselor I’ve witnessed her innate bond with children and the passion she possesses in enabling and providing them with the tools to succeed in life! I know the NJ School Counselor’s Association will be making the right choice when they vote in Indra as the Counselor of the year!

The title pales in comparison to the likes of this women. She is one of the realist people I know. If anyone is deserving, she is. I’ve seen her put the community on her shoulders, all while juggling a home, a career, & all of her business endeavors. She is unmatched!
