Shaundra Boyd was nominated by her colleague, Kimberlyn Willingham.

"As I recommend Mrs. Shaundra Boyd for the LifeChanger of the Year Award, I invite you to join me on a journey of a woman with hope, gratitude, and thanksgiving," Willingham said. "A woman who is a wife, mother, daughter, sibling, and friend. A woman who reaches the hearts and minds of those she meets daily. Shaundra is a woman who excels through commitment, leadership, integrity, and honor."

Mrs. Boyd loves and embraces her students and the many young people she serves in the community. Though she has received many professional accolades, she remains humble, modest, and grounded as she continues promoting education and assisting others in overcoming obstacles to reach their true potential. Mrs. Boyd hails from Atlanta, Georgia. She attended area schools and graduated with honors. She continues to find ways to impact the community that she grew up in through her personal and professional endeavors.

"I want to begin this journey by discussing Shaundra's impact at Warren Technical School," Willingham said. "She currently serves as a CTAE Early Childhood Education teacher for high school (16-22) students with exceptionalities. Mrs. Boyd utilizes a variety of instructional strategies to increase her student’s academic achievement. She differentiates instruction to meet each student's needs in her program by using data, surveying student interests, and getting to know each of them. She goes above and beyond to provide for her students from an academic and social-emotional standpoint."

Mrs. Boyd conducts frequent check-ins with students and parents to see if they need anything. She covers expenses for field trips, purchases food for students, and purchases supplies out of her pocket. Regardless of her students' exceptionalities, she finds a way to ensure they succeed in the classroom. During the transition to a virtual learning environment, Mrs. Boyd excelled in getting her students acclimated to the new technology platforms. She demonstrated patience in working with each student until they could successfully interact and engage in all lessons. Today, students are using technology they have never used before with ease. Mrs. Boyd is preparing her students to meet the demand for 21st-century jobs, despite their challenges. Her passion for her students is unwavering, and she is truly making a difference in their lives daily.

"Currently, Shaundra Boyd works closely with a team of teachers to provide rigor in the classroom," Willingham said. "As a team member, I can attest to her natural leadership ability, positive attitude, compassion, love for students, and go-getter mindset. Her students respect and adore her, and they know that she is there for them through anything. Mrs. Boyd challenges them to learn and grow. She believes in giving her students numerous chances to successfully master concepts while encouraging them to do their best at all times. She teaches them to persevere through all things and never give up, despite the obstacles they may endure. Mrs. Boyd will take time after hours to work one-on-one with her students because she is committed to seeing them succeed. I have never met a more selfless, empathetic educator than my colleague and friend, Shaundra Boyd."

Mrs. Boyd is also an FCCLA advisor for her program. She prepares students to compete at the regional, state, and national levels in various leadership categories. Many of her students are competing for the first time in their lives. Mrs. Boyd has helped them build the confidence to stand firm in their truth and reach for the stars. Last year, two of her students received the Silver Star Award, and another student won the Bronze Star Award. She also ensures that her students give back to their community. Last year, all of her students volunteered twice at the Ronald McDonald House, preparing meals for families of sick children.

Being a LifeChanger is not new to Mrs. Boyd. She has been changing lives for the many years she has been in the education profession. As a former special education teacher in the Clayton County Public School System, she advocated for her students. She worked collaboratively with all stakeholders to put the needs of her students first. She transitioned to an instructional coach position after many successful years in the classroom. In this role, Mrs. Boyd found opportunities to mentor students and provide academic and financial support to those in need. Regardless of the position that she operates in, Mrs. Boyd makes a significant impact on the students she serves and the staff she works with.

Mrs. Boyd has an extensive educational journey that has prepared her to address diverse student populations. She graduated with a BBA degree in Management from Fort Valley State University, secured two Master's degrees in Curriculum and Instruction and Early Childhood Education from the University of Phoenix, and obtained an Education Specialist degree in Technology in Education from Lesley University. She is presently working on her Tier I Educational Leadership Add-on certificate from Georgia State University. Mrs. Boyd has several additional certifications in the following areas: Georgia Special Educational Curriculum Consultative (P-12), Georgia Special Education on Social Science Cognitive Level (P-12), Georgia Special Education on Reading Cognitive Level (P-5), Georgia Special Education, ELA Cognitive Level (P-8), Georgia Special Education, Math Cognitive Level (P-5), Georgia Special Education Science Cognitive Level (P-5), and Georgia Early Childhood Education (P-5).

Mrs. Boyd is a leader and is currently participating in the following leadership activities at Warren Technical School:

  • Serves on the school administrative team;
  • Serves on the CSIP leadership committee;
  • Oversees designated school committee;
  • Evaluates school-wide and program data to inform intervention strategies;
  • Leads professional development in curriculum and instruction;
  • Manages the school website, and;
  • Serves as teacher-leader on district-wide data initiatives.

Mrs. Boyd has additional leadership experience contributing her high level of expertise in the education field. She was a Strategic Training Supervisor and Instructional Designer with the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority, a Training Development and Implementation Consultant with Bright from the Start, and an Instructional Coach at Georgia Piedmont Technical College. Overall, she has a wealth of experience that helps her navigate our profession with ease.

Mrs. Boyd’s journey doesn't stop in the classroom. She is adamant about making an impact in the community, as well. As the mother of a son with Autism, she is invested in ensuring all people can achieve success, regardless of their circumstances. Her passion for this work led her to create The PEP Project, Inc. The PEP Project Inc. is a small, Atlanta-based nonprofit organization with a big vision. The PEP Project's first initiative was providing monetary support to families in need, donating computers to students, and giving self-care gift baskets to parents of students with exceptionalities during the holiday season. Mrs. Boyd led this successful initiative and is finding more ways to impact her community.

"Mrs. Boyd has accomplished much on her journey but will passionately tell you that her work is just beginning," Willingham said. "It is because of her impact inside and outside the school that I highly recommend Mrs. Shaundra Boyd for the LifeChanger Award. She is one of the most deserving educators I know."

I have known Shaundra, professionally for the last 5 years, and I can attest to her passion for learning and the development of others. As a Learning Leader, Shaundra was responsible for influencing and impacting the careers of front-line, customer service, supervisory, and managerial employees at the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority. I have witnessed Shaundra's attention and commitment to coaching and counseling employees, return as employees promoted to new opportunities. Shaundra truly cares about the growth and development of those around her. Shaundra continues to serve through her non-profit, The PEP Project, by uncovering and and providing access to resources for parents of children with special needs. Mrs. Boyd is the absolute best ECE teacher and professional I have had the pleasure to work over the last 2 years. She has a positive attitude, a calm presence, and an optimistic attitude. She has been a rock of stability as our daily routine and school life has changed rapidly, due to Covid-19. She has led major projects for our teachers including learning online technology and aggregating data to most benefit our student population. She is a key resource for our students and staff, serving as FCCLA advisor. She is always actively working to creatively solve issues for her students. She also takes tremendous care of her students, taking the time to know what someone’s favorite candy is, picking the right theme for their birthday cards, and remembering who has food allergies or preferences when planning group events. She plans student meetings and celebrations for the accomplishments reinforcing their learning and growth. She joined WT with complete dedication and is available whenever needed. Her countless hours beyond the normal workday to ensure that we are able to get back to work and make our students school days meaningful and productive has been greatly appreciated and allowed us to bring some normalcy to our days. What can I say but WOW! Mrs. Boyd is truly a Life Changer for her students and co workers. She is a truly an asset to our school and I am so thankful to have the opportunity to work with her.

Life Changer is so applicable when describing Mrs. Boyd. She certainly has a way of impacting and motivating others in a life changing manner! I met her during my first full year of teaching. She was my instructional coach and she truly changed the level of confidence I had in myself as an educator. She took the time to observe, support, encourage, and affirm me as a new teacher and that helped me to recognize my full potential. She was the first leader to take the time to coach and mentor me, and that changed the trajectory of my impact on the field of education. She is more than deserving of the recognition for her life-changing impact on so many.

Mrs. Boyd is truly a positive life-changer. She is passionate and diligent in everything she does. She is always available and willing to assist others in every situation in which she is involved. Mrs. Boyd makes positive life changes for colleagues when she trains and assists teachers and staff members with innovative lesson plans as well as technology instruction. Mrs. Boyd's work does not end in the classroom as she has made positive life changes for students and families in their home lives when she uses her own money to purchase food and other goods when families are in need. Mrs. Boyd has worked with me (the lead counselor) on numerous occasions, late into the evening hours, supporting students and families in crises situations.
