Dr. Tiffany Cox received multiple nominations from her community. The following profile contains text from each nomination.
Dr. Cox puts her heart and soul into her band students. She goes far out of her way to inspire students and provide them with opportunities they wouldn’t have access to otherwise. When she arrived at Lake Worth Community High School, some students couldn’t read music. Now, her band is winning awards, and several graduates have moved on to pursue music at universities across Florida.
Dr. Cox opens up her band to all students and lets them try it out. If students don’t like it, they can leave, but if they end up liking it, they can stay. Most students end up staying because they see how kind and amazing Dr. Cox is.
Being a band director at a Title I school with a large population of color is incredibly difficult. Dr. Cox spends hours fundraising for her program, as well as connecting herself and her students with community programs. She builds relationships with all of her students, while still running and building the most successful program at Lake Worth Community High. Dr. Cox spends a lot of time working with her students on the importance of mental health while filling in the educational gaps by providing her students with college prep assistance and career assistance.
As an educator, Dr. Cox knows and understands the harsh realities that her black and brown, economically-disadvantaged students go through. She always goes above and beyond to make sure her classroom is a safe, anti-racist space. It’s a home away from home, and a place to go for advice and building connections. It’s a place to escape hardship while preparing for the future ahead.
“When I first joined the band during my sophomore year of high school, I instantly had a good vibe in the environment,” said a student. “Dr. Cox taught me leadership skills that I will use throughout my life, and she helped me realize my talent for music. She’s also shaped me into the leader I am today and helped me understand that it is okay to be me.”
On top of the amazing work she’s doing in the band room, Dr. Cox has been furthering her own education and just graduated this month with her PhD. She also serves as a mentor to many area directors, especially other young women directors, and has become a pillar of the community.
“Tiffany is incredible and is so much more than a music teacher - she is a LifeChanger,” said Dr. Cox’s sister, Kelly. “I’m very proud to call her my sister and an educator in our community.”

Tiffany I can't think of anyone more deserving of the Life Changer of the year award. You are a phenomenal band director who is so passionate and dedicated to helping the kids in your community. You have proven over the years and most recently during the pandemic how creative and innovative you are in making sure that the kids come first. You have implemented so many new practices during such uncertain and difficult times that are life changing to so many kids whom are so fortunate to have you as their teacher. You have been instrumental in making certain that the kids continue to be successful during these hard times. Tiffany is a hugely positive presence at LWHS. The students, staff, and families are very fortunate to have a wonderful leader like Tiff. She creates a growth mindset environment that can be felt from the top down at the school! It is especially wonderful to see her passion for children and education as she interacts with the kids during class. I do not know Tiffany as a teacher but as a friend. We went to school together and she always had a smile and encouraging word for everyone. I’m sure she carried that into her career. If she taught you or your children I’m sure you know you were blessed.
Ms.Cox has been such a positive influence in my children life. I see her at times in our beautiful city and always feel the warmth of her smile and her care and concern come through each time. Without exaggeration, Ms.Cox is the most encouraging, generous, and devoted director that Lake worth has ever seen. Tiffany never missed a beat at the school. She's the kind of girl that knows each and every students' grades, family, and way of life. She's the kind of girl that wants to help you achieve the next level in life wherever that may be. Dr.Cox is MORE THAN deserving of this nomination; she has truly has been a fundamental building block for me leaving high school, starting collage, and beginning my professional career.

Ms. Cox is one of the most influential people in my life and is the only teacher I’ve had that I have spoken to outside of schooling. She has helped me on numerous occasions. My parent’s separation, the death of my sister and lifting me up while I was in a very bad mental state. In my eyes there is no one more deserving of a life changer award. Dr.Ms.Cox has been one of the greatest teachers I've had. She's made the transition from middle school to high school much easier. She's a very understanding and passionate teacher and she always makes sure that we know that she cares about us. Each day we walk into her class we are greeted with some upbeat, lifting music. Dr.Cox has truly reinvented the concept of teaching. Even though she can be a bit aggresive with her assignments, she always makes sure that we know the material and what is expected of us in order to succeed. I've been scrolling through these comments for a while and realized that they're all very similar. She's nice, she gives us food, she's dedicated, all that. I've been trying to find other words to get my point across, but there are only so many words to describe Dr.Cox. She is an amazing young woman. My daughter is Brooklyn Smith and Dr.C has taught her all sorts of wonderful things. When my daughter got home after the first day she played her instrument, she ran straight to me and said "Mom! Look what I can do!" then -proceeded to play her Bb scale. This was amazing because I had never seen her eyes glow as much as they did this day. Her passion for playing was unexplainable, and it's all thanks to Dr.C! Thank you for changing my daughters life.
Dr.C makes me wanna learn more about the band world. At first I only joined this class so I could earn by required performing arts credit, I was very much gonna leave after a year. But Dr.C made me stay. Her energy and positivitey was so motivating, it made me interested on what else band had to offer.

When I say Dr. Ms. Cox is one of the best teachers I have ever had, I truly mean it. I had never understood why my peers had such good connection with their teachers, but once I stood into Dr. Cox classroom, I finally understood. Walking into her classroom was like a breath of fresh air. The environment was cozy and positive and I instantly knew I was welcome here. It was soon later that I understood that Dr. Cox isn't just a great band director, she's a great person. I grew up in a not so good neighborhood, I was financially disadvantaged, but that didn't stop me from having a great high school year. Whenever I couldn't afford something, Dr. Cox would find ways to help me, a normal teacher would just say no and move on. Dr. Cox has been an incredible asset to our Lake Worth High School instructional team. She came in four years ago to a program that only had 9 students enrolled and found a way to inspire our student body to have faith in her. Tiffany has been such a light since she came into my life. I've seen the work that she does with her students and can honestly say that she is the most selfless person that I have ever met. She drives all over palm beach county collecting school supplies, clothing, instruments, and donations from organizations and generous community supporters. She has prioritized networking the community so that she can give her students everything they need to find success in their musical, academic, and personal endeavors.
I grew up with Tiffany through middle and high school. I'll be the first one to tell you that she has always been an incredible person. She is the type of person who has always been a natural leader, but leads in a way that makes people feel supported and confident. She is passionate about helping others and is always the first to jump in to help someone in need. I am so proud of the woman and educator that she has grown into!

She advocates for women in band director positions and serves as a mentor to many young music educators. She reaches out to those in need and still finds a way to serve in volunteer leadership roles in her professional organizations and in her community. I met Dr. Cox after her presentation at our Florida Music Educator's Conference a few years ago. She was presenting on gender and instrumental music and how women experience gender-based oppression in our profession. Her words inspired me and I was blown away by her generosity to support young women by serving as a mentor. Now, three years later, she still checks in on me and makes sure that I am comfortable and confident in my teaching. She's a lifechanger for so many of us and I'm so lucky to know her!

I have known Tiffany since she was 5 years old when she started Kindergarten at Addison Mizner Elementary school. I have watched her grow up to be an amazing young lady and an outstanding educator! I had the pleasure of working with Tiffany on several volunteer projects over the last 10 years. She's always been dedicated to service and puts herself out into the community to share her talents, time, and infectious personality. She is extremely good at organizing large crowds of people and making sure that events progress smoothly. She's excellent at diffusing tense situations and has a way of making everyone on a team feel important - no matter what their job is. She is strong but nurturing, kind yet stern, organized yet tons of fun! I met Tiffany Cox in grad school when we were both working on our masters degrees. She had this contagious energy about her and I knew instantly that we were going to be lifelong friends. She helped me on more than one occasion to navigate the complexities of higher education and every time, she was patient, kind, and understanding. She always believed in me even when I couldn't find a way to believe in myself. It took me a year longer than her to graduate, but even after she finished her masters, she checked in on me to offer help, guidance, and support. She is a one of a kind friend and I cherish her always.
I can confidently say that Dr. Cox has changed my life. When I met her, I was struggling with depression and couldn't see any sliver of light or happiness in my future. I was going to drop out of high school and work a minimum wage job for the rest of my life. She believed in me and helped me to get my act together so that I could graduate. I finished high school and am now training to be an EMT so that I can continue to help people. I couldn't have done it without her.
It's painfully obvious to anyone with eyes that Dr. Cox deserves this prestigious award. She is the most dedicated, enthusiastic, kind, compassionate, and patient human being to have ever walked the halls of Lake Worth High School. She spends her days caring for her students and making sure that they have food to eat and that they feel happy, safe, and loved. Ms. C was always super nice to me. She was flexible about allowing me to do band and play football at the same time. She supported me in my goals and worked to make sure that I could participate in both activities without conflicts.
I've known Ms. Cox for years through her work in the music community. She has proven her skill as a music educator time and time again. She has earned a great deal of awards including the Tom Bishop award for growth in a struggling band program. She dedicates 110% of herself to her students and ensures that they are afforded every opportunity to expand their skills as musicians. She cares for them personally and has really created a family atmosphere in her band program. Her students leave her room prepared to take on the world and all of the challenges that come along with adulthood.
I had the pleasure of working with Ms. Cox at the last school that she taught at. She was an absolute gem of a teacher and made sure to have personal relationships with all 1200+ elementary school students! She dedicated herself to them personally and also made sure they had all kinds of music opportunities - she even started an elementary school band program! Even after she moved on to bigger and better things, she stayed in touch with her elementary school kids and helped them to prepare for high school (and now college!). She is an absolute blessing and Lake Worth High School is so lucky to have her!

I am so impressed by the work that Tiffany has done at Lake Worth High School. While rebuilding the band program from the ground up, she managed to prioritize the social and emotional needs of her students. She still works closely with her alumni students to support them through college and in their life endeavors. She is incredibly compassionate and gives of her own time and money to support her individual students as they struggle through life in low-income housing. She checks up on students individually and even helps them to plan for college and apply for scholarships. She is an all-around rock star educator!

I met Tiffany Cox when we were in college together. Even then, she was changing people's lives. It is astounding how she is able to do all of this, and complete her PhD simultaneously, without any compromise to the quality of her work. What's even more inspiring, is she does all of this with a smile on her face and without a hint of martyr syndrome. Where others might laud how tired they feel from all the good work they do for students, Dr. Cox wastes zero time or energy on such sentiments. 4) When I first joined band my sophomore year of high school, I instantly had a good vibe in the environment. It was also her first year as the band director at the school. She had rebuilt the program from the very base of the foundation. She has taught me leadership skills that I will use throughout my life and realize my talent for music. As a Music Education major, I dreamed of being placed into a school where I would be able to see student’s lives changed as a result of our music program. Dr. Tiffany Cox is the director of that program I dreamed of so many years ago.
As a teacher, Tiffany goes above and beyond for her students. She not only cares about what will make them a better musician, but a better human for society. Tiffany has become an expert on how to write grants and gain local partnerships to help support her band, which is a Title I school, and would otherwise have zero funding. I had the pleasure of working with Dr. Tiffany Cox at Lake Worth High School for several years. I taught art and we worked closely and collaborated on numerous art projects and also service learning projects and she became one of my closest friends at school, and beyond the classroom.
For much of the time I worked with Dr. Cox she was working towards her doctorate- always able to balance her time between her academic commitments and completely overhauling our band program at LWHS. She is a true powerhouse and always kept me inspired.

I was so nervous joining band my senior year, never playing an instrument before in my life, but Dr. Cox and the entire band welcomed me with open arms. Dr. Cox happens to be my sister I personally think she is pretty amazing. Dr. Cox is always talking about her students, she tells us what they are learning, all of the functions she takes them to in their community and she teaches them to better than they ever thought they ever could be. My band director in high school was good but my sister as a band Director puts him to shame with her accomplishments. She starts with students who can hardly play a note and ends up with some pretty fabulous musicians.

Dr. Cox is one of the best teachers that I’ve ever had the pleasure in meeting. Joining the band last year was one of my best choices I could’ve ever made and Dr.C had made my band experience absolutely amazing. When Ms. C first came to our school, our band program was crumbling apart. She was able to rescue it and also to show us all that we are capable of so much more than we ever imagined. I have known Tiffany for a couple years now, she hired me to coach her French horn sectionals at Lake with high school. I got to see her teach and was very impressed by how much the students respected her and her unique teaching style to help every single student. She was also nominated and was one of the finalist for Palm Beach County music teacher of the year that Palm Beach symphony hosted when I worked for Palm Beach Symphony. She got numerous people recommending her for the nominee.In addition we have a instrument donation program at the Symphony, and she nominated so many students for instruments, including professional instruments for her seniors planning to major in music. These instruments helped her students get opportunity to go to college and play music She took Lake Worth high school band when it was barely standing and hope to grow overnight to be a fantastic music program.
Tiffany puts her heart and soul into her band kids - making music accessible to all students. She has totally reformed the music program at her school - when she came on board some students couldn’t read music, and now her band is winning awards. She is also directly responsible for ensuring students at her Title 1 school move on to college and have access to the educational opportunities they wouldn’t have had without her. She is a band director, a life coach, a college-bound advisor, and a mentor to these kids. On top of the amazing work she’s doing in the band room, she’s also been furthering her own education and just graduated this month with her Ph.D. Tiffany is incredible and is so much more than a music teacher - she is a life changer! I’m very proud to call her my sister and an educator in our community.
I have the pleasure of being the Fine and Performing Arts Department Chair at Lake Worth High, which gives me the opportunity to know Tiffany Cox on several levels;As a Teacher, Colleague, And Friend.
As a Teacher, Tiffany’s world revolves around “her kids”. I have witnessed first hand, Tiffany’s tireless, single handed efforts to turn around an underfunded, struggling band program and turn it into the pride of Lake Worth. With a list of community business partners and volunteers she personally brought into the Trojan family. Thanks to her The band numbers have risen. They have new instruments , uniforms, and funding to travel and compete.Her students love her, recognize her and respect her sacrifices. They do so by willingly sacrificing their own time on weekends, afterschool and sometimes even over school breaks, to practice, perform and help out in the local community.
As a Colleague, Tiffany is a strong advocate for the fine and performing arts. She is active on campus, performing or lending help to others. I often come to her with tech questions and seek her advice and value her opinion on school Issues. But, what I love most about Tiffany being on my team is her “All in”, fun loving, positive, glass half full personality. From creative costumes ( bananas, holiday onesies) to finding creative ways to celebrate her colleagues special days, like secretary day or bdays.
As a Friend, Tiffany is more like family. She is a great listener, offers good advice, makes me laugh, a shoulder to cry on, a confidant, just a really good person. She even shared her gift of music with my own family, by giving my daughter piano lessons. We have enjoyed many game nights, dinners and conversations, and feel
Lucky to call her my friend.

Dr. Cox treats all her band members and Guard members like they are part of her family. She helps us to grow into young adults who know how to work hard, take care of others and realize our dreams can come true if we put lots of effort into them. One piece of advice that Dr Cox gave me was that it is OK to ask questions and ask for help. I follow her advice and realize I get one step closer to my dream every day. Thank you Dr Cox
Dr. Cox is the only teacher that I have ever had that actually took the time to get to know me as a person. She made me feel like I belonged and made sure to check in with me when I needed her most. Now, she has given me the opportunity to build my resume by working with the band as a staff member. She looks out for all of us and makes sure that we all have opportunities to succeed in our personal and professional lives. She does so much more than teach - she absolutely changes lives.
