Amy Bagnasco was nominated by her principal, Angela Miller.
Ms. Bagnasco has the heart of a champion, especially when it comes to children. She's an integral part of the Ionia County school system and Freedom Acres School. She has served as a school social worker and NCI instructor for over 30 years, and her devotion to students and families has never wavered.
As a positive role model, empathetic listener, mentor, and facilitator, Ms. Bagnasco goes above and beyond in making herself available to students, staff, and families. Her passion, determination, and “can do mindset” are reflected in everything she is a part of, especially when it comes to addressing student, family, and staff needs. She is resilient in overcoming obstacles and respected for her compassion and honesty. She strives to bring everyone together to work as a team, leading to a successful and safe outcome for students.
Ms. Bagnasco doesn’t just teach others about Nonviolent Crisis Intervention techniques and utilizing trauma-training philosophy, but she models what she teaches. She goes out of her way to support struggling families by making home deliveries and securing donations of food, clothes, and gift cards. She's understanding, flexible, and willing to meet with families and agencies who are unable to meet during school hours. Ms. Bagnasco actively supports and attends wraparound meetings for the learners and families at Freedom Acres school. Each spring, she organizes an annual 5K run with students, staff, and families from Freedom Acres School, as well as community agencies that work with individual students.
