"When I think about impactful educators, there is no one with a better gift than Chef Chris Hill," said Rosch. "His commitment to helping all students learn and grow in their culinary skills has been proven time and time again throughout the last few years. Although Chris is a newer teacher, his service mind set has been an awesome addition to our building."
"I had the opportunity to work with Chris as an instructional coach because he always wants to do the best job for his students," said Rosch. "He wanted to truly understand the best ways to help his students learn and succeed. I was in awe of his ability to build relationships with students and cultivate a love of learning. His students work hard because he has high expectations of them to cook and succeed. His students enjoy coming to class every day because his classroom is always a fun and inviting place. He has gotten many accolades from staff and students for his customer service, event planning, and so much more. He truly exemplifies the definition of a LifeChanger because he is quick to get to know students and figure out the best path to help them succeed."
Chef Hill's most recent achievement was being a part of a grant team that brought a food truck to his program. He has the students design menus, plan costs, and work with customers (with his supervision) to make sure that the love of food is carried near and far. He has worked tirelessly to make sure every event goes well, and that the students can shine through whatever challenges they encounter. With only 20 spots for his Pro Start Program, he has over 200 students apply each year.
"My daughter, who has the opportunity to take his class, says she loves learning new facets of cooking," said Rosch. "Whether it's perfecting a taste pattern of something or making sure the seasoning is right, Chef is always there to help and coach along the way."
Chef has made a huge impact on Westy. He has transformed our culinary program and has built a strong community within and outside of his classroom. Unfortunately, I don’t have chef as a teacher, but I’m so grateful to have him at Westy. He is a good role model for me. The environment he has built in his classroom is phenomenal and something I look up to as I want to become a teacher in the future. I praise him for challenging his students. My friends will tell me what they made in his class and I often have a blank stare, only because I’m in awe that my friend can cook complex recipes when I remember them struggling to make a box of Mac n’ cheese freshman year. In essence, chef is a genuine man that has impacted westy in a way I didn’t know it was possible.

Chef Hill is the best. I hear so many good things about his class from the students. He is a true inspiration to them.
I have had the pleasure of knowing Chris for a couple years outside of the school setting. When I see him, he talks about the things he wants to teach his students, and how proud he is of them. Recently, one of his students from his first year of teaching started working with me and she always says ‘chef this’ and ‘chef that’ bringing up all the amazing things from his class. The impact he made in her from 3 years ago, that she still talks about it to this day, shows why Chris is a life changer!!

Chef is an amazing man, teacher and leader. It shows in the way he interacts with his kids and the wait list to get into his ProStart class. He deserves everything coming his way.
(inside joke) - (Callate Chef - I can hear you walking passed my room saying that now). lol
What stands out to me most is the longevity of these comments. You can look back to the first comments almost a year ago and see the difference he is making already. Then you see the impact he had on the summer school. Fast forward to this year, and more of the same. Even to the most recent post, it’s clear Chris is the definition of a life changer. All he talks about is his students and how much he enjoys making a difference in their lives, encouraging them, and doing everything he can to ensure their success. Then you add in the extra effort of the food truck and the commitment that takes? Beyond amazed and I don’t think I am alone when I say Chris changes the lives of everyone he touches, whether student, colleague, friend, or stranger in passing.
Having Chef as a colleague and friend is such an honor. First off, school community shouldn’t only be about the community within each class and the teacher, but about the whole school and modeling that for the students which Chef does regularly. Starting at Westy during a pandemic with quarantines, he was one of the first teachers I met, through a virtual cooking class that he hosted for staff. I didn’t know many people yet, especially not in person, but he was so welcoming that it didn’t matter and I was really grateful for that. Chef Hill also helps kids see their education as holistic. I am a literacy teacher at Westy and was having the kids work on a project where they had to identify how literacy is used in their dream career. I had a few students that wanted to be chefs so when I asked him if he would be willing to talk with those students about how literacy is used in cooking and the restaurant industry he jumped at the idea without hesitation. He even went on to say how he could (and does) bring pretty much any subject into his cooking classes and why that is so vital. He is a colleague you can count on to collaborate with and find the best path for each kid. And lastly, his pure passion transcends from him to and through his students. Whenever I’ve been in his room, the kids are having fun while being highly engaged. They are excited to show off what they’ve cooked and feel so empowered to be a part of this class and his program. I’ve also gotten to see this same engagement and pride when ordering from the food truck that is all thanks to Chef’s tireless effort. If I had a dollar for every time I heard his name in my classroom, I’d be rich. Not only are the kids excited to learn from him in class, they are excited to talk about his lessons and him as a person outside of class which is a true testament of a good teacher in a high school. He is definitely a LifeChanger! Way to go, Chef!

Chef Hill is many of my students' favorite teacher. His classroom is one where students want to be. He cares about each individual student, even the most difficult ones. I'm grateful to have him at WHS.

Chef Chris has brought so much opportunity for kids here in Westminster! The addition of the Food Truck has been such a cool addition to our district, Our department has used the Food Truck to welcome new teachers and it has been a fun and exciting event, getting rave reviews from our participants. Chef Chris is an outstanding leader and his industry job experience brings a fresh perspective to teaching. He teaches, coaches and cooks with passion and great enthusiasm, I hope that his passion for teaching and cooking imprints into the kids and they take that same energy into their own careers and lives. This year he enthusiastically took on the role as mentor for a fellow CTE teacher, I can't imagine a better mentor for a new teacher then Chef Chris! Chef has created an awarding winning program here at Westy and the numbers of kids joining culinary has grown so much. The students are gaining unbelievable real world experiences in the program, particularly with the addition of the Food Truck over the last year. Chef has helped so many kids find a path through his program it is amazing how many lives he has changed.
I cannot put into words what Chef Hill has accomplished in his short time at Westminster High School! The culinary pathway has been truly transformed into one of the most competitive in the State of Colorado! Students are running their own food truck, are earning college credit, and industry credentials that make them more competitive in the job market. This pathway is now one of the most demand in out school and it is all due to the work of Chef Hill. Chef also works to develop strong relationships with students and it is evident that he truly cares about them. Our students' lives are enriched both during and after high school due to Chef's dedication and passion! Thank you, Chef, for all you do!

Chef Hill's commitment to and care for his students is obvious. He goes above and beyond daily to connect with each student which has a direct connection to their success in his classroom. He is devoted to this profession and that shows in his daily interactions with his students and the community at large through his involvement in various student led community service events.

Chef Hill has been an amazing asset to our school since his hiring. He oversaw the purchase, build, and utilization of a food truck that is used by our culinary students. This alone was a monumental feat, but Chef Hill did it without hesitation and while still teaching his full load of classes. He us a supremely dedicated and knowledgeable professional and I am proud to call him my colleague and friend.
I always get kids coming into class talking about Chef, and how they were excited to either make something or proud of how they made a dish by themselves. It is not often high school kids take time to talk about how much fun they had in class, and it is incredible to have someone like chef in the building to help empower kids.
Chef Hill isan outstanding educator. Despite common misconceptions that may lead some to think, "Nah, that's JUST a cooking class..." they would be gravely mistaken, for students learn so much more! The projects have students incorporate much-needed life and academic skills, such as writing, calculations, and forcasting cause/effect of decisions we make in regards to nutrition. Chef Hill is incredibly engaging and rigorous!

Chef Hill is a great teacher who is always willing to take on difficult challenges. He gives kids opportunities they have never had before and challenges them in their skills. His class provides students which such an important life skills for their future and he encourages students to be creative and push themselves in the culinary realm. Although it is a very fun class it is also strongly rooted in education and preparation for success after high school whether as just an adult who has to make food for themselves or a person looking to be in the hospitality field. Chef Hill is the kindest teacher at WHS. He takes time to get to know all of his students, and always takes a few under his wing to help them towards their success. Where can I start with Chef Hill... This is my first year in culinary and this class is honestly my favorite class. Everyday I look forward to coming in and doing the fun assignments he gives us. I absolutely love cooking and when I have to do it in school as well it makes my day so much better. Chef Hill is such a good teacher! Hes funny, hardworking, supportive,and most importantly a GREAT Chef!! When we don't understand how to do something he helps us by showing us how to make it or gives us great advice to help us. Not only that but hes the type of teacher you can go to with any problems or just to get a joke. You can just see he really cares about his students and their education. He helps understand each student to help them learn better & most importantly he makes everyone's day great!

The reason I would like to vote for my teacher Chef Hill, and the reason for this is because he is a has made his classroom very welcoming. Since I have come to this classroom, he has always made sure we know how to complete the recipes well and that we know how to make our food special. Chef is clearly someone who knows what he is doing, and puts in the work to make sure his students know what is expected, what work needs done, the schedule, the learning necessary, and fun! Chef has so far made it very clear what is teaching style is, and is very leveled out with students. He makes it clear that he is the teacher, he is the lead chef of us, but does not come across negatively condescending, instead working well with us, and making us figure much of it out on our own so we can truly learn, and how to deal with mistakes and problems when cooking well. Along with this, Chef hill has create and effective and well - structured class, where I can understand easily what I need done, when we will be doing specific items or assignments, and how to go about it and problem solve myself. He creates an environment where I can immediate get to work, learning and having fun at once. He utilizes the assignments that he leaves for us daily to help us understand necessary language and math as well for this course, especially important and useful, as the language, math and reflections we are to do helps us understand how to work proficiently in a kitchen setting, communicate and measure right, and create more critical understanding of items of our life that we can use to reflect on life. In summary? Chef has a very effective learning style, where you will learn if you try, and will learn very important skills, even translating to work environments as the course really feels it should, where we can understand how to go about these new spaces, and use these skills daily while it becomes more than a chore or another assignment.

I have been a student of Chef Hill for 3 years now. In the 3 years of being his student there was never a time where class wasn't interactive or boring. He made me realize how therapeutic and stress-reliving cooking can be. Through his teaching I and many other found our passion in the kitchen. By supporting us and providing us with the right equipment we were able to make the dishes we wanted and preferred while still learning about culinary along the way.

One of the things that immediately caught my attention when supporting Chef Hill's crew in the kitchen was how he easily connects with the students while showing interest in their diverse backgrounds and inspiring them to use those backgrounds to develop proper culinary skills. The students love coming into class each day and it has been a joy to witness such a safe and professional working environment Chef has established with the students while supporting their continued growth and passion for cooking. I look forward to what he has planned for the students next year!
I have worked in the same building with Chef Hill for 2 years, but this year was the first year I have been able to work side-by-side with him. During our Extended School Year, I was placed in the Culinary group. It was amazing to see how he worked with students, his extremely vast knowledge of cooking, and his generosity of sharing his delicious food with staff! In twelve days, I learned things from sharpening knives to butter tarts to the perfection of frying the perfect French fry. The fact that in Chef's second year he was able to secure resources to get a school food truck was incredible in its self, but what he has taught the students in 1 year to make it the success truly speaks to his dedication and skill as a chef.

Chef has really made me feel welcome in his classroom/kitchen. He helped me learn how to cook foods that I never knew how to cook. For example, I made and tried sushi for the first time. Chef also was always there to cheer me up if a recipe didn't turn out right. Chef has made me laugh and smile more than I have in a while. This year really weighed down on my mental health but Chef has brought back the joy I have when I cook. He has really been an amazing teacher and I hope that he gets this award. I love watching the cooking classes chef did on zoom over quarantine. He worked hard to make sure that all people who wanted to cook and learn something new had a chance near or far. He even offered these classes to Girl Scouts across the entire United States. Many people took advantage of these classes, learned new skills from a professional and had a lot of fun. Today I stepped into Chris class and the kids were waiting to head to their next class. In each of their hands was two boxes of food that they made. Chef Hill taught his students how to make home made donuts and sushi. The kids were so excited about what they made and how it turned out they each opened their boxes to show off their creations. You could see the sense of pride in each of the students faces. It take a great teacher to engage their students. Chris Has encouraged our students to take the step outside their comfort zone and try something new. I am so proud of him and his accomplishments this year. We are so lucky to have him as our teacher!
