Vicki Borland was nominated by her principal, Sheila Nugent.

"A school nurse has a hectic job in a 'regular' school year," explains Nugent. "Add COVID-19 into the mix, and the nurse is transformed into a hero. Vicki Borland is a superhero!"

Ms. Borland's job responsibilities range from changing messy clothes for students who are still adjusting to bathroom routines, to doctoring scrapes and cuts with loving kindness, to administering life-saving medication for students with diabetes and asthma. She's in high demand, consulting with parents on the care of children, checking on COVID protocols, advising families on quarantine procedures, and conferencing with nervous parents about their children's newly diagnosed health conditions. In addition, Nurse Borland consults with IEP teams to create education plans and health plans for students with special needs. She makes a visible, positive difference in the lives of students at Glen View Elementary.

Her role can be daunting and exhausting, but Nurse Borland approaches each task and day with a sunny disposition, a positive attitude, and unwavering professionalism. Students are comforted and reassured because of her loving, nurturing approach and demeanor. 

"Her outstanding work ethic, as well as her commitment to excellence and her own professional development, have made Nurse Borland an essential member of our school administrative team," said Nugent. "Vicki Borland is an outstanding health professional and a superhero at Glen View Elementary. We are so blessed and thankful that she's a part of our Gator Family!"
