Angel Tari was nominated by one of her students.

"She was my social studies teacher when I was in seventh and eighth grade. I’m currently in college and will always remember the impact Mrs. Tari had on me. She taught my classmates and I how to think critically and form our own opinions. We also learned how to have respectful and insightful discussions with people whose opinions are different than our own. She taught me many things, all of which I use all the time in college," said her student.

Mrs. Tari was my social studies teacher in seventh and eighth grade, but she taught me much more than history. I can easily say that she is one of the best teachers that I have ever had, and she went above and beyond to make learning exciting and fun. Whether it was dressing up as a plague doctor and creating a game to learn about the plague, or building battle dioramas in shoe boxes, Mrs. Tari always brought an extra level of engagement to what we were learning about. Even on days when there was not an activity like these, the way that Mrs. Tari led our discussions kept us interested in the topic. She had a genuine interest in what she taught, and that was evident in her passionate lectures and discussions. One of the things I am most appreciative of is the environment she created in her classes. Mrs. Tari’s respect for each of her students was clear, and we could tell that she valued what each individual student could contribute to the discussion. I was never afraid of getting the answer wrong in our classes, because I knew that Mrs. Tari would respond with encouragement. I grew more in Mrs. Tari’s classes than in any other, and I attribute that to her high expectations. Mrs. Tari expected a lot of each of us, and challenged us to do our best in everything that we did. I am now in college, and continue to use what I learned in Mrs. Tari’s class every day, and know that I will continue to use them in the future.

I have known Angel Tari for many years now and still carry all of the advice and knowledge she has given to me while being in her class. Mrs. Tari has made a huge impact on my life as she has both encouraged me and inspired me to be the best person I can be. While being in her class many years ago, my peers and I were able to have deep and meaningful conversations In safe and respectful environment. I know that if I ever need Mrs. Tari's help or advice I can trust her to listen and support me. To this day I still consider Mrs. Tari as friend and a meaningful support system in my life.

Angel and I started working together when our children were young and schools offered us the opportunity to keep their schedules and work with students. A few years later we were taking classes at the same time to complete our degrees. Along the way she had one focus- the kids she worked with and doing what was best for them. She always sets her expectations high, but attainable. Angel wants her students to learn while they are with her and she always works to make that learning engaging in different ways. She is a role model in the teaching profession and passionate about her subject area. Her concern is always her students and taking what she is doing and always looking to improve. I’m lucky to have her as a friend and teaching colleague. Her students are lucky to have her as their teacher. Brighton is lucky to have her in their community and in their school district as a passionate teacher! She is one-of-a-kind-wonderful and very deserving of this nomination. She has impacted the lives of so many students over the years and still looks to make their days a little brighter when they walk through her door. Angel is the kind of teacher we all want our children to have and she’s the kind of teacher we other teachers strive to be. An amazing teacher. An amazing friend. An amazing mentor. Angel is simply an amazing person and I’m honored to have her in my life. Huzzah Mrs. Tari!!!

I worked in Special Education with Mrs. Tari years many, many ago. She was a gifted and caring teacher then, and obviously continues to have a great impact on students today. She is very deserving of this honor!

Mrs Tari, hands down a life changer for my kiddo when she taught him history, healthy debate, independent thinking, life lessons, skills, study habits, fostered a love of learning and so much more. She took time to work with a high energy, sometimes focus challenged young boy and got to know his learning style, likes and personality. My son and I are grateful for what she brought out in him and attribute much of his success in school and beyond to her. She’s a thoughtful, caring, inspiring, incredible human and life changer for our students/kids and parents too!

Mrs. Tari taught me in 7th and 8th grade and was probably the major influencer in what sparked my interest in learning and teaching initially. Before her class I always thought of school as a necessary evil, but she showed me that, though school might not always be fun, the process of learning is what you make of it. Since her class I have learned and grown as a person in a dramatic way and it wasn’t because of the content that she taught (though it was interesting!) — it was because of the passion that she showed for sharing knowledge, and the patience and understanding she had with the students. She’s one of those teachers that people wish they had, the kind that sets their students on a focused and successful path regardless of their interests and aspirations. Thanks, Mrs. Tari, for being an amazing teacher and human!!

Not only did Ms. Tari have a significant impact on two of my sons as they learned in her social studies class in Middle School, she has been a great support and mentor through high school and even into college. We are so grateful for her impact on our sins scholastically, morally, and personally.

Mrs Tari taught my son in Social Studies and she was his favorite teacher. She was probably his favorite teacher of his entire K-12th school experience. He said her class was one that you always looked forward to. Her lessons were interesting and sparked a strong passion for history!! She was also just a really great person!!! He got an opportunity to go on an 8th grade trip to DC with her as well and nerded out with all of them!!! I always saw a different spark in my son whenever he was being taught or mentored by Mrs Tari which was really cool to see!! Thanks Mrs Tari for making such an amazing impact on our kids and making a difference in their lives!!!!

If everyone had and Angel in their life the world would be a better place. Angel is a caring, compassionate and fair person with her family and friends. Those same traits spill over into her teaching career. I enjoy hearing how excited she gets when the kids are learning a particular lesson or when they challenge her and their peers. Angel cares about each and every student from past to current. I and very proud and humbled to have her in my family’s life.

Christopher R Smith Posted over a year ago

I first met Angel a few years ago after having been friends with her husband for a number of years. In the time I’ve known this amazing lady, she has shown herself to be nothing short of a professional when it comes to her work and work ethic, loving and caring when it comes to her ‘kids’ (her students) and one of the best friends anyone could ever hope to have. I consider her more like family (a sister I never had) than just a friend. She is reliable, trustworthy and would give you the shirt off her back or her last dollar if you needed it. As a friend, she has definitely changed my wife’s life with her support and encouragement to get my wife to start walking and running and doing 5k marathons as well as getting her to explore her creative side in doing crafts and such as well. You could do worse than Angel as the recipient of this honor, but you couldn’t do much better.

Angel is my current mentor in the district and from the day we first met she’s been phenomenal. She’s very relatable, easy to talk to, and knowledgeable about many different things. She holds people accountable while helping them to improve and be successful in reaching their goals.

I had Mrs. Tari as a teacher over 4 years ago and I can still say, to this day, that she is the best teacher I have ever had. I never thought I was smart or a good student, but Mrs. Tari helped me believe that I was. She believed in me and my encouraged me to try harder in my schooling. I had never challenged my self before, but because of her class my 8th grade year, I went on to take honors and AP classes in high school. She supported me in everything I did inside and outside of school. Mrs. Tari even came to watch me sing at a local theatre I was performing at. She listened to me and made me feel heard and cared about, and I will forever be grateful to her for changing the way I see myself.

There are so many reasons why Mrs. Tari is considered a Lifechanger I almost don’t know where to begin! Mrs. Tari was my Social Sciences/History teacher in both 7th and 8th grade. While middle school can be a hard time for some, Mrs. Tari’s history class was one of the first times in my education where I didn’t always feel like learning was a chore. I mean who can honestly say they enjoy writing long essays and taking tests? They’d be lying, but, there was so much more than that to History with her. I was constantly engaged in her lessons, the way she walked around the room while going on about Plebeians and Patricians. Or when it was time to learn about the bubonic plague and she showed up as a plague doctor. Writing the instructions on the board and staying silent, pacing the room while we did an activity with pinto beans, a game of chance that showed how most people didn’t survive. I’ve retained important parts of her teaching lectures, because while other classes blur and blend together. I can remember clearly, the room and the table I sat at while virtually exploring the Lascaux cave system in southern France. Or learning about the Sumerian society, and how they vanished. I think one of the most unique aspects of History with Mrs. Tari was the discussions and the atmosphere. Always encouraging critical thinking and discussions was new. I’ve since been in other environments where discussions have been part of the curriculum, but they didn’t have the same feel as Mrs. Tari’s class. In 7th and 8th grade I always felt encouraged to participate and share my opinion, but it didn’t feel like it was just part of the lesson. It always felt like Mrs. Tari truly wanted to know what we thought. She was always available to connect with us, so much so, that she always garnered a specific brand of respect. Even the most troublesome of my classmates, who were always being sent out of the room in other classes, sat and focused while in History. She met us where we were at, and didn’t expect us to cross choppy waters if she wouldn’t do the same. The final thing I want to say is that, she never shared her political or religious affiliation with us, we begged and bothered all of our other teachers who gave in after we continued on to Highschool. But she stayed firm, “I will never share my political or religious beliefs with you because it may change the way you view the information I teach.” At the time I remember thinking that she should just be “cool” and tell us. But in hindsight, I respect that she didn’t. This society is too polarized and to be able to message her and talk about history stuff without thinking about politics is pretty awesome. Mrs. Tari is a gem, and a pretty kick “butt” teacher. I 110% believe she is a life changer.

Mrs. Tari has an amazing gift of making learning feel less like work. In 7th and 8th grade her class was easily the one I looked forward to most. The way she engaged as our teacher but not only that, but as a guide and a support was just incredible. Mrs. Tari is the perfect balance between hard worker and genuine person. She as my teacher taught me not only inside but outside of the classroom. She showed me how to work hard yet know it’s ok to be human. Mrs. Tari is for sure a life changer.

Angel Tari is not just a wonderful wife, mother, friend and educator- she is a communicator. In this day and age with the technology curves and the political quagmire surrounding our schools, Angel manages to keep those hurdles in the periphery while focusing on the students and their successes. She has a gift of communicating with them respectfully while still setting boundaries; a rare attribute. It’s what our students need; a safe, structured, success- driven space. She is and has always been committed to her students meeting their mark and beyond. The education system is blessed to have her as a warrior for our children.

Myranda Robinson Posted over a year ago

Angel Tari has such passion and knowledge for all aspects that encompass the whole child- she is a teacher of content, an educator of self-worth, and fierce advocate for all learners and individualized needs. As a colleague, she exerts compassion, understanding, team-mentality, and will be/support the change if there needs to be action steps taken to support our school culture or classroom engagement for all students.

Mrs. Tari is the best teacher and influence I have ever had. I had her for history in 7th and 8th grade as well as for multiple electives and no matter the class everyone was excited for the conversations that would ensue. I still remember the interactive activities, playing the roles of social classes and people we were learning about, and the projects that got us involved in every topic. Mrs. Tari is a wonderful soul who knows how to inspire everyone she meets. I use skills and knowledge that I learned in her class everyday and I am prepared for what’s ahead of me because of Mrs. Tari. I can think of no one more deserving!

Angel is such an amazing, kind, thoughtful, and positive person to work with. As a school counselor, I'm used to being the one to check in on students and staff, but Angel is always the one to check in with me (and others, I'm sure) to see how I'm holding up, and to see how she can help. It is such a relief to know that I can go to her for anything I need, and I know that the rest of the students and staff at our school feel the same! Angel has high expectations for her students, and treats them all with respect. This in turn helps student to believe in themselves, to try hard to reach those expectations, and to treat her with respect as well. Her positivity is infectious, which has been SO needed and helpful these past few years. I'm very grateful to have her as a colleague, and can think of no one better to receive this recognition.

Congrats Angel! This is so deserving! All the effort and support you show to students and to your colleagues (including me) should be recognized because you do go out of your way all the time for everyone! I know being a new teacher last year, you made me feel very welcomed and I have seen the difference you make in our students lives. Thank you for all that you do and keep up the amazing work! You deserve this!

Mrs. Tari is not only an amazing teacher to all of her students that enter her room. She is also my mentor teacher! I’m a student teacher this year and I have the privilege of being able to learn from her. Everyday I feel like I take something new that I can add to my tool box. Mrs. Tari doesn’t try to change me or have me teach a certain way, she does what would for any of her students and she plays off my strengths and encourages me to tackle my weaknesses full on with motivation and courage. She listens to everything I have to say and guides me in the direction I want to get to one day. I know when I leave OTMS and enter my own classroom for the very first time I will be more than ready because of Mrs. Tari. I will welcome all my students without out judgement but instead with a smile and intent to make an meaningful impact because I have learned that from Mrs. Tari, she truly is a life changer for anyone she meets!

Dominic Rossi Posted over a year ago

Angel is an amazing teacher and colleague! Every decision she makes in the classroom is so intentional and she creates a learning environment that allows ALL students to access an amazing education. By differentiating all of her lessons to a variety of levels for all students (both way above and way below grade level), she goes above and beyond for her students. Additionally, she is a mentor and leader in our building who impacts and inspires both new and veteran teachers to be their absolute best as well.

Chase Kanger Posted over a year ago

I am a former student of Mrs. Tari, and hearing she was nominated came at no surprise. She’s been the most dedicated, and caring teacher I’ve ever had. No one in her room was ever left struggling in her class, she always created an environment focus on us the students. Not only focused on how we could succeed not only in her class, she taught skills we need in order to succeed in our future. Her class is the sole reason I became confident in school, not because of the grades, but because of the way she believed in us taught us to believe in ourselves.

Marie Gaschler Posted over a year ago

Angel Tari is an example of what a teacher should truly be. Teaching is truly her passion and she does it with just as much passion and love as an artist would make a painting. It is not a 8-3 Job for her. It continues to be on her mind all day. “How can I help this student?” “I wonder if “Susie” is ok, she was a little off today”. Someone that thinks of our children beyond the classroom is a rare gem. She also spends time outside of her class to find new, innovative and creative ways to engage her students in the art of learning. Angel consistently goes out and beyond and thrives to be her best so her students can be theirs.

Mrs. Tari has been the most impactful adult in my life from elementary school, to middle school, into highschool, and even into adulthood. The first time I met her she was the soccer coach at my elementary/middle school. I was conveniently a year behind to participate in soccer every year from 3rd grade to 6th grade, and consistently every one of those years she allowed me to participate in practice and give it my all even though I couldn't be on the team. Than into middle school she was my 7th and 8th grade social studies/history teacher. She not only gave me a love for history and a love for my academics but showed me a lot of important life skills that I don't think I would have lasted with out. She taught me how to stand up, and be myself, she taught me alot of the things that make me myself and make me proud to be who I am. Into highschool I would often visit my middle school to help her out and visit her because she will always be my favorite teacher. During highschool I hit a very low point of depression and anxiety, and I went to visit Mrs Tari at my middle school and she walked me through alot of the things that helped me get through that time. Overall, she is the most amazing and impactful teacher for alot of students. She deserves this because over anyone I know she changes alot of lives for the better, I wouldnt be half the man I am today if it weren't for her.

Ms. Tari taught both of my children in middle school. She was incredibly kind, caring and supportive to both of my children who are very different learners. She helped prepare them to be incredibly successful high school students by teaching them how to take notes and study. She pushed them to do their best and she built amazing relationships with them. They both knew they could go to her with problems and concerns and she would help without judgement. As a parent, she listened to any concerns I had and presented solutions. She advocated for my children to get what they needed to be successful both academically and socially. I also had the pleasure of working with her as a colleague and she was just as supportive to me as a brand new teacher as she was to each of her students.

Angel is not only the best colleague I've ever had, but one of the most life-changing teachers ever. No student leaves that class without being drastically different than they left, in the best possible way.

Mrs. Tari was my 7th/8th grade social studies teacher. She prepared me in so many different ways when I reached high school, without her I wouldn’t have excelled in writing or had any idea on how to take notes in class. She truly is such an amazing teacher who cares about her students and they’re well-being. She is definitely one of the most memorable teachers I’ve had in as I am now in college.

Mrs. Tari is the best! Not only was she able to teach the standard content in her classes, but I feel that she taught every student so many skills, anywhere from study skills to dealing with life as a whole.

My daughter in law may be the one who married my son, but she is also my best friend, confidant and means the world to me. She is a selfless, caring woman who will always go above and beyond for anyone who crosses her path. She will show you by example how to overcome obstacles and give you incentives to achieve any goals you desire. She will stick by you through thick and thin, sometimes even if it’s painful. She is a firm believer that she will always find the good in people even when the world shows her different. Her passion for teaching developed long before she became a teacher. She worked herself from the bottom up to where she stands today. Any student who has had the pleasure of being taught by her will come away knowing how much she truly cares for them to strive and achieve their dreams and goals and yes that dreams really do come true!!

I had the pleasure of having Mrs.Tari as my social studies teacher in middle school and she was absolutely wonderful. Having her there to teach me the best ways of organization and note taking was a life changer for me in college. I still use her note taking process to this day in my classes and honestly in my everyday life. She also taught me traits such as responsibility, diligence, and perseverance, something important for all people to learn and especially young kids to learn. She is a wonderful human being and cares so much about her students and the people around her. Her teaching still impacts me as a college student and will continue to inspire me as I strive to become a teacher.

Mrs. Tari was my social studies teacher when I was in 8th and is one the best teachers I've ever had. She let us be ourselves and helped made a subject that not alot of us liked and made it fun and exciting for everyone. Also when ever I was feeling down she would talk to me during lunch and always helped me feel better. I still see her every now and again even though I'm in college and I always enjoy seeing her and talking to her. She wanted everyone to succeed and help alot of us do just that.

Mrs. Tari has had a huge impact as a teacher, leader and role model for our kids. She values each person, teaches and relates to her students like no other teacher. She has a level of commitment that far exceeds the expectations. She is the beat teacher by far that I have ever had the opportunity to encounter. No one deserves this more!

Angel is 100% deserving of this award! As a former colleague I saw the way she pours into the lives of her students and never lowers her expectations. She believes that every student can be successful and because of her unwavering faith in them, they frequently meet those high expectations. Angel doesn't just teach Social Studies, she is passionate about the content and in teaching kids to not only think critically but to become upstanding members of society. I am honored to have taught alongside Angel for several years and her students are so fortunate to have her as a teacher. She is truly a life changer.

Mrs. Tari taught three of my children in Middle School. In addition to being a stellar teacher, she is a wonderful example of exemplary moral character. She extends grace and kindness and truly cares for her students. My children are now in college and still consider Mrs, Tari one of their most loved teachers.
