Music that Describes Michelle

Michelle LaFrancis was nominated by an anonymous colleague.

Ms. LaFrancis is one of those rare teachers who always puts the needs of her students above everything else. She works long days and goes far beyond her job description. While her job is very busy, especially with things changing constantly during the COVID-19 pandemic, she also serves as the Yearbook Advisor. Additionally, she works with many seniors who are pursuing further education by helping them with college and scholarship applications. For those students who are planning on heading into the workforce following graduation, she helps them try out different fields through workshops and field trips to area businesses. She does everything in her power to make every Spaulding graduate succeed.

Ms. LaFrancis works so hard and cares so much that she is constantly pursuing grants to help fund equipment and transportation for field trips.  She has been very successful in securing these funds and helping the community by providing these resources without any increase to the taxpayer’s burden. For example, she secured a grant to set up a STEAM lab in her building so students can try out different career options.

Students aren't the only ones who benefit from Ms. LaFrancis' hard work; she is always there for her colleagues, as well.  She cares so much and has such a big heart.  However, she will never take the credit for all that she does. She always gives the credit to others, preferring to remain in the background and let others get the recognition.

"She is truly the definition of a LifeChanger for those lucky enough to know her. I cannot say enough positive things about her," said her nominator.

I feel so grateful and fortunate that Michelle has been a part of my oldest son's life these last few years. He has been in her Work Based Learning Program- one of her 'bumbles'. Her enthusiasm, energy, dedication and genuine love for her students is present day in and day out. I have seen my son step outside of his shell and explore new experiences to find a fit for his future goals. To provide this learning in typical times is difficult- but in the midst of the pandemic - is truly amazing! She is always available to parents and students- giving of her knowledge and support to help us begin to navigate the world beyond high school. Michelle is also always willing to give her time and talents to school and community events- making SHS a place students and families feel welcome. In our family- Lafran has absolutely been a Life Changer!

Michelle has more energy than any human being (and most puppies) that I've ever met. She harnesses that energy to focus on what she can do for kids, and how she can help lead them in positive future directions. Her efforts and energy is infectious, and every student is her "little bumble". She is truly a LifeChanger.

I can not think of a more deserving individual for this award than Michelle LaFrancis. Michelle works tirelessly, day and night, to ensure that the students of Spaulding High School are provided the opportunities and tools to find success in their current and future endeavors. I would even say that her reach extends beyond the walls of Spaulding, as Michelle can often be found supporting her colleagues in other districts to secure similar experiences for students both in and outside the classroom. is the epitome of selfless. Michelle is never one to hesitate when it comes to giving of herself to support others. She is often found during lunch and advisory bands working with students to complete their resumes, job applications, college essays, college applications, and moving briskly through the hallways, on a yearbook or other school/community benefiting mission. Michelle's non-stop energy, enthusiasm, and kindheartedness is enviable and superhuman and is the reason that she should be awarded the Life Changer of the Year Award.

Michelle LaFrancis shines so brightly at everything she does for our students! Both my children have been blessed to experience “LaFan’s” contagious positive energy and extreme commitment to preparing them for life after high school. Her gifts in motivating and organizing students, building their confidence and communication skills, and advocating for students’ experiential learning are sacred treasures for our community. Her work ethics are exemplary and her compassion for her learners (she calls them her Bumbles) is what every parent wishes for.
