Music that Describes Glenn
Glenn Goodell was nominated by his colleague, Jillian Zeilenga.
You will see a familiar sight when you enter the halls of East Montpelier School at lunchtime. A tall man with kind eyes and a cool ponytail surrounded by a gaggle of kids saying, "Hey Glenn, can I help you today?!"
"The students and staff at EMES adore Glenn," said Zeilenga. "He is one of the amazing custodians at our school, and we are all so thankful that he has joined our school community."
Mr. Goodell truly cares about each student he comes into contact with. You will often hear a "Hey bud" as he moves through the halls. Mr. Goodell has made a point to learn each child's name and works hard to build relationships with all of them through his sense of humor and daily interactions. He notices when a kid is having a hard day and will take the time to check in with them. He is a mentor to many children in the building who need extra TLC and has taught those students how to be confident and build responsibility.
"Their teachers have seen a massive shift in their kids who work with Glenn for the better. He has taught them to take ownership of our school and how important it is that we all do our part to take care of it," said Zeilenga. "There are so many things we could say about Glenn, but the most important thing he does is he truly sees each child. They know when they come to our school each day, someone is always in their corner who genuinely cares about them. It seems like such a simple concept, but it is life-changing for kids and will impact them for the rest of their lives. We are so lucky to have him!"
So glad Glenn was nominated. He such a great guy and always has such a good time with the family kids.
The whole family loves him, always willingly go the extra mile. His humor carries over into everything he does. ????
Glen is my brother in law and I regularly witness firsthand the consideration Glen gives to children with his playful, down to earth personality. I have heard many stories about the kids he interacts with at school and have no doubt that he makes an impact in his work day as much as he does outside of work. His nieces and nephews love thier fun, young at heart Uncle as do all his family. A great guy!
Glenn you are certainly worthy of this award. I saw how you interacted with students at MSMS. Those kids adored you. They had you speak twice at two different eighth grade graduations and voted you as the Adult Citizen one year. You always treated students and staff with the utmost respect. Students always wanted to help you as you were teaching and respecting them. I am so proud of you. Love you.
Glenn is the man!
He has made an impact on society many young peoples lives while working tirelessly at the school systems in Central Vermont! Very good guy.
My 12 year old used to love talking to Glenn in the hallways and random interactions with him at school!
This guy couldn’t deserve the nomination more and more so the win! I hope everyone gets behind him and pushes him to the finish line!
I am proud to say Glen has always been a positive influence in my life. He has been an integral part of the man I am today by helping instill respect, compassion and understanding towards others.
I know that Glen gets as much from his interactions with the students at EMES as they do from him. I love to hear the stories at the end of the day as they are always filled with laughter, some shenanigans and lessons he has taught. Glen has an amazing rapport with the students, as he gets them. He gets each of them, he learns who each child is which allows him to bring out the best in each child in the best way for the child. He teaches them life lessons and skills in a fun way. Glen makes responsibility and accountability a cornerstone of their lives. Something they will always remember and take with them. The students treasure Glen as know he is teaching them because he truly cares about them, each of them. Glen also thinks the world of the staff, He is caring, fun loving, hard working man that I am lucky and blessed to call my husband. We are all blessed to have someone so wonderful in our lives.
Glen makes a point to connect with all of the kids with care, humor, and a belief that each person can help out in meaningful ways. He motivates the children at EMES to be their best selves and to care for the school. He demonstrates confidence in the kids, and he inspires students to do their best work in all that they do. His belief in each child helps them to be confident and work hard. Glen is an amazing mentor who brings joy and pride to so many. Glen is truly a Life Changer!
Per my daughter:
“He’s the best! He is my favorite custodian. He plays games with the kids, is super fun to be around and so nice!”
My son talks about Glen and how awesome he is all the time. He really connects with the kids and they adore him. Thank you for your positive influence, Glen!
Well this is fun to see! My 2nd grade daughter told me just today her favorite parts of school are PE and helping Glen clean the toilets. I hope I get to meet this kind member of the EMES team someday, as he clearly makes the kids at school feel like family. I am glad my kiddo seems to like reading, math, and art, too but this made me giggle! She can get extra credit for cleaning our toilets if she wants!
Glen is a treasure. Although he wasn’t their birth father, I’m proud he is the man my daughters call dad. He has an extraordinary heart for kids, and they can feel that love in his presence.
Glen is an amazing, caring soul. Early in the year, he began to take one of my struggling students under his wing. The change in this child's attitude and self-confidence was amazing. This child has grown and matured, with Glen's guidance he has developed a positive attitude toward school and toward his peers. The child has become a leader and embraces responsibility both in the classroom and in the school. One day when Glen was out of sick, this second grade student continued to do the jobs that they would typically have done with Glen because they knew they were important. Glen has truly changed this child's life but Glen doesn't stop at supporting just one child. He embraces the idea that all of the EMES students are "his kids" and the staff is his family. He jumps in to support students and staff with a positive attitude and a can do attitude. I can't think of a more deserving person for this recognition.
I worked with Glen for many years . He is part of our family even though he is not blood related my daughters called him uncle. He has always been diligent in his work . Funny guy great with kids because like Peter Pan he has kept his inner child that most forget how to be .we love and miss him .
If anyone deserves this award he does .
What can I say after everyone else's comments. Glen has always made me laugh until my ribs hurt. Glen you have one of the best sense of humors ever. I have no doubt that you have and always will change the lives of students no matter where you work. I sure do miss you at MSMS, so do the kids and staff!! Keep it up brother!! Love you ?
I’m Glen’s older brother and I can say without a doubt that Glen brings a lot to your school and to everyone that comes in contact with him.
He’s really good with how he interacts with children and is always willing to help out anyone in need.
He’s deserving of this award.
You nailed everything you said about Glenn. He is so kind and my kids absolutely adore him. Zoey loves when she get to help out with him. Thank you for all you do for the kids to feel so special.
Thank you so much for being such an awesome person. My kids Lexi and Tommy absolutely love you! I hope you win!!!!
Glen helps to put a bounce to colleague and student's step and a huge smile on each of our faces.
Glen hadn’t been in our building very long when one day he was sitting on the bench outside of kindergarten helping a little one navigate on how to put mittens on. From there he was down the hall helping search for a missing boot or helping tie shoes. Daily I have kids come into the office asking” where’s Glen?” “When does Glen get here” there are students that he has been working with as a reward for being on task or completing work. He sticks to the plans too , he shows them that hard work is rewarding and something to be proud of. He shows them how to take care of things and how to help one another. Oh and by the way helps up keep our building spotless!
Glenn genuinely cares about the children and our community. Both of my kiddos have come home from school with smiles, talking about how Glenn made them laugh. Thank you Glenn for everything you do!
