Christine Keane was nominated by her principal, Kerry Larke.

Mrs. Keane has been at the Marion G. Vedder Elementary School for over 16 years, and has spent most of those years as a fourth-grade teacher. During this time, she has developed a reputation for being the teacher every student wants. Her kind, calm personality is reassuring to students who struggle, both academically and socially. She has been a mentor for numerous students and has been a long standing member of the Site Based Management Team.

She is consistently looking to bring positive experiences into her classroom that encourage students to be the best they can be. Mrs. Keane can often be seen mediating student disagreements in a thoughtful and productive manner. She does all of this while maintaining a high level of expectation in her classroom. She is not afraid to try new approaches, and likes to teach her students that hard work pays off.

"She exemplifies the saying 'they may not remember what you said, but they will remember how you made them feel," Larke said. "Mrs. Keane's students walk away from her classroom feeling loved and supported. She is truly a LifeChanger."

I have worked with Christine for 15 years. She is a dedicated and devoted teacher always encouraging and sensitive to the needs of her students. She is a team player supporting her colleagues in any way she can. Christine has gone through many difficult times in her personal life with her family and in the midst of those trying times she has held on to her hope and keeps enduring and trusting in her spirit looking up instead of giving up. Christine is always smiling and loving yet she is firm and disciplined with her students. I recommend her for this achievement award.
