Music that Describes Marin

Marin Fairbanks was nominated by her Assistant Principal, Alan Daniels.

"With great pride and admiration, I nominate Marin Fairbanks for the LifeChanger of the Year Award. Ms. Fairbanks is a true champion for students and educators alike, and her impact on our school community is extraordinary," said Daniels.

Throughout her tenure at the school, she has demonstrated exceptional leadership, unwavering commitment to student success, and a deep dedication to creating a nurturing, inclusive environment. Ms. Fairbanks has made a profound difference in the students' lives through her tireless efforts to develop and oversee the school's Citizenship class curriculum over the past five years.

"This class has become a cornerstone of our students' education, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to engage as thoughtful, compassionate citizens. Her work in the History Curriculum Committee of our district further highlights her commitment to ensuring vertical alignment and compliance with state standards, which strengthens the academic foundation of our entire district," Daniels added.

As the current department chair for Drama and Dance—despite not teaching those subjects—Ms. Fairbanks has shown remarkable leadership, fostering collaboration and growth among faculty. While not directly related to her teaching, her involvement in these departments is a testament to her dedication to the success and well-being of all students and staff.

One of the most notable aspects of Ms. Fairbanks' leadership is her unwavering support for students. She consistently goes above and beyond to help those in need, whether showing up early, staying late, or offering tutoring and guidance—often outside her class. This commitment extends to her role as the staff member overseeing the Tabletop Club, a space where students who may feel on the fringes of the school community have found a sense of belonging.

Ms. Fairbanks is also a consistent and invaluable volunteer for all the fine arts events. Whether taking tickets at a concert, chaperoning a competition, or providing feedback to students before a performance, she demonstrates her passion for her students and her belief in the power of the arts to enrich their lives. Her presence at these events sends a powerful message to students: that she cares about their growth and supports them, no matter the time or circumstance.

As an educator, Ms. Fairbanks exemplifies excellence in her craft. She actively seeks professional development opportunities, often at her own expense, to continuously grow and improve as a teacher.

"I have witnessed firsthand how she takes the knowledge gained from these professional developments and immediately applies it in her classroom, enhancing the learning experience for her students. Since our campus opened in the Fall of 2019, Ms. Fairbanks has played a pivotal role in shaping an environment of inclusion, empathy, and kindness," said Daniels.

Through her example and teaching, she has instilled these values in her students, encouraging them to reflect, think critically, and look outside themselves through service opportunities. Her classroom is where all students feel seen, heard, and valued. Ms. Fairbanks demonstrates the highest moral and ethical standards in every aspect of her work. She is a role model for her colleagues, a mentor to her students, and a vital part of the school community.

"Her contributions have left an indelible mark on our campus, and I can think of no one more deserving of the LifeChanger Award. Her dedication, leadership, and unwavering commitment to making a positive difference in students' lives make her a true LifeChanger," Daniels concluded.

Ms. Fairbanks has made such an impact on my whole life. I had her as a teacher for one year, and went back to TA for her for the next two. As a person she is kind and understanding, and as a teacher she explains the lesson and actually made me enjoy American history. I could go on for so long about how much I adored Ms. Fairbanks as my teacher. She helped me understand who I am and supported me the whole way, she helped me come out of my shell by allowing me to host an afterschool club in her room, and she’s made me understand what it looks like to be a kind and compassionate person to those around me.

I have known Ms. Fairbanks since my seventh grade year. Although on paper she was just my history teacher, she taught me a plethora of things. I struggled with severe anxiety, but she was always understanding and was willing to work with me. We once had a class debate, and it involved different parts where two people would need to debate with each other in front of the class. This was a horrifying moment for me as I dreaded speaking to others, nonetheless in front of my eighth grade class. However, Ms. Fairbanks helped me push through this moment by comforting me prior to the debate, and giving me her best words of encouragement so that I could be successful. Ms. Fairbanks has always shown empathy towards me, along with others who suffered with mental health struggles. She’s an amazing teacher, person, and a friend. I admire her and I look up to her as my role model.

Ms. Fairbanks is absolutely wonderful! She was my 10th grade history teacher and even though she isn’t my teacher anymore, we still talk in the mornings and sometimes after school. She is always there to talk to students when they need support and her positivity can’t help but bring a smile to my face. I am glad to have experienced her and I wish everyone could get a chance to meet her if that was ever possible! :) You can really tell that she cares about teaching and making her classes fun. She takes feedback from students and always strives to improve her teaching in a way that works best for everyone. If anyone deserves this award I 100% know that it would be this wonderful human!

Marin is in the top three most giving and compassionate people I know. This isn’t to say that she doesn’t get fatigued or discouraged. Rather, this is more about how she attends almost every event the school has, holds regular check ins with her students to see how they are, offers encouragement, and never seems to fail at having time to help another person whether that is colleague, admin, or student. She truly embodies a mentality of service, love, and teaching in all that she does, using connection to help support her teaching and building lasting and meaningful relationships with students along her way. She is someone that the school and community knows they can count on, always present and smiling, eager to make a difference in the lives around her. I truly can’t think of someone more deserving of an award that she can use to better her students and school than Marin.

Marin is changing lives all the time and in many different ways. Her students get a passionate historian, engaging educator, and a listening ear. Her school admin. Has a hard worker and super volunteer. She supports faculty across Curriculum and works behind the scene toward the success of many students activities. Just one example is volunteering to assist the drama teacher grew into fine arts department chair all the time teaching history. Students who seek her out for personal and academic advice can attest to her life changing influence. But dozens of other will never know how her concession stand work paid for their winning teams uniforms or her dozens of shared lessons opened ther eyes to the importance of personal integrity and self governing. And the great thing about Marin is that the anonymity is fine as long as the individual was reached.

Ms. Fairbanks is a lovable, happy person that tries her best to help out her students and those around her. Ms. Fairbanks loves her job and the kids she teaches. She may be strict, but it’s all out of love. She wants what’s best for the kids she teaches. Ms. Fairbanks is also fun and really nice. Her quirky personality lights up the mood and makes people’s days just by being herself. She’s not afraid to share her loves and beliefs and that makes her a wonderful person. I love Ms. Fairbanks a lot and I’m glad she teaches at Heritage.

Marin is such an awesome teacher and then goes way above and beyond and is involved in almost all extracurricular activities. So she teaches during the day and has many days she doesn’t leave school until late at night.
