Music that Describes Jessica
Jessica Haley was nominated by a colleague, Jacqueline Eye.
Ms. Haley can be described in three words: advocates, leads, and inspires. Through her unwavering compassion, strategic leadership, and deep belief in each child's potential, she has transformed MSAD 20's special education program into a place where students feel seen, supported, and capable of success. She consistently opens doors to meaningful access, advocates fiercely for equitable services, and ensures that every student receives the individualized support they deserve. Her ability to build trust with families, empower staff, and create inclusive, student-centered environments has improved outcomes across the district. She listens, collaborates, and leads with heart, raising expectations not only for students, but for everyone who works with them. Because of her vision, students who once doubted themselves now thrive, participate, and believe in their futures.
"I still remember the afternoon I walked into her office, nervous and unsure of what I was doing. I had been struggling with a student who wasn't responding to anything I tried, and I felt defeated. She looked up from her desk, smiled gently, and asked me to sit down. Instead of telling me what I had done wrong, she asked, 'What does the student need from us right now?' That simple question shifted everything. She pulled out a notebook, listened without rushing me, and helped me see strengths in the student and in myself that I hadn't noticed. When we walked back to my classroom, she didn't just give me a plan; she stood beside me, modeling strategies, encouraging me, and helping me understand the "why" behind each step. Within days, I saw the student become more engaged and confident, and I realized I was changing too. Her support in that moment did more than solve a problem. It made me feel capable, valued, and connected to the heart of this work. She didn't just impact my students; she transformed how I see them and myself. Because of her, I lead with more patience, more compassion, and more confidence. She changed my perspective, and in many ways, she changed my life," said Eye.
